Arctic Minerals

Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlements

Land acquisition and restrictions on land use can impact communities and persons that use this land. The potential impact relates to all phases of the mining cycle, from prospecting to production and closure. In a Nordic context the potential impact extends to reindeer grazing and reindeer herding culture.

Arctic Minerals actively work to minimise any displacement by exploring alternative project designs if any potential risk for impact arises. Forced evictions are always avoided, and when resettlement not possible to avoid, we mitigate social and economic impact from land acquisitions or restrictions on land by providing compensation. Land acquisition is always preceded by informative dialogues with participants from affected people and communities.

Our current portfolio is limited to projects in prospecting phase. By addressing the questions of land acquisition and involuntary resettlements early on, we are well prepared to take all measures available to minimise the potential effect on surrounding communities.

Key focus areas

  • Plan for conservation and reclamation of mining areas
  • Close dialogue with affected people and communities
